Venice is still a working city. Without cars it relies on boats and trolleys, delivering from dawn in a more measured and cultured way than any lorry could ever manage. Every angle is magnificent, crumbling and vibrant. The light is, of course, amazing, when it isn't raining. It is familiar and strange and then familiar again. Just another European city humming and bustling around its tourists.
